ABOUT THE RICH JERK
If you have seen his website then you probably think that the Rich Jerk is some arrogant, rude, jerk. Aside from that little is known about the true identity of the Rich Jerk. He does make quite regular posts in his blog located at http://www.therichjerk.com/blog/ which does give you an insight. He has also held the top spot on ClickBank and generated much hype with the launch of his ebook. Other than that the Rich Jerk and his identity is still shrouded in mystery.
ABOUT THE RICH JERK’S GUIDE TO MAKING MONEY ON THE INTERNET
“The Rich Jerk’s Guide to making Money on the Internet” (to give the ebook its full name) details seven ideas you can use to make money on the internet which are:
- Creating an Affiliate Website!!
- Search Engine Pay Per Click (PPC) Strategies!!
- Search Engine Optimisation!!
- Selling your own Information Product!!
- Buying wholesale and selling on eBay!!
- Websites you can make Profitable Right Now!!
- Other Online Ventures to Consider!!
- Supplemental Info for Beginners!!
For each of the above topics the Rich Jerk explains how you would go about setting them up. In the section below I will review the ebook on a chapter by chapter basis, and then provide my overall opinion on the ebook.
The first chapter “Creating an Affiliate Website” is in my opinion one of the best chapters in the book. It begins with a list of affiliate networks that the Rich Jerk recommends which he ranks as; ‘1) Must Join’, ‘2) Maybe Join’, and ‘3) Join If Bored.’ Once you have chosen your affiliate program, he then goes on to explain how to write your sales letter. In this section he provides five excellent tips (plus an optional sixth) which can be applied to almost any sales copy. The Rich Jerk then provides an example sales letter that incorporates all the steps from this chapter. The chapter is then rounded off with some additional affiliate tips and some affiliate website building tools. Overall, this chapter rates as one of the best in the ebook. It provides you with easy to follow, step by step instructions, which you can easily implement with the minimum of effort. The only criticism I have of this chapter is that one of the tips to get extra affiliate commissions is against ClickBank policy. I was implementing this tip for a few months but ClickBank did pick up on it and make me change my web pages. I cannot reveal what the tip is, but aside from this chapter one still remains one of the best in the ebook.
The second chapter is “Search Engine Pay Per Click (PPC) Strategies.” The chapter begins by explaining PPC search engines and then goes on to highlight; ‘The Biggies’, and the ‘Best of the Rest.’ The Rich Jerk then goes on to explain the difference between Google Adsense and Google Adwords. Following on from this he outlines a simple strategy for making money with Google Adsense, a simple strategy for selling products (affiliated or your own) via Google Adwords, and a Traffic Middleman Strategy. Although the basic information is there to implement each of these strategies I did find it quite weak. The adsense strategy for example, does not explain how to optimise your page in order to make the most money via adsense - it simply tells you to optimise your page. The section on Google Adwords is also very basic and would not be useful for anyone above beginner level. Overall, this chapter does contain the bare essentials to make money using PPC search engines. However, the level of detail means that this chapter is of little use to anyone other than beginners.
The third chapter is “Search Engine Optimisation.” Chapter three improves on the previous chapter by providing more detailed information that can be easily implemented for free. The chapter begins with a section on Incoming Links and how to obtain them. Next the Rich Jerk discusses Page Content and how to use it properly. He then moves on to discuss some Miscelaneous SEO Strategies, which provides you with a few quick tips on how to optimise your pages for Google (based on the latest results). Finally, the Rich Jerk discusses Cloaking a controversial strategy that is apparently very effective (I wouldn’t know as I have never tried it). Overall, this was another good chapter. In particular the section on Incoming Links is one that I have found very useful and borrowed from a lot. The only problem with this chapter is the controversial issue of Cloaking. Not only does it cost a lot of money to cloak a domain ($2,000 for the software that the Rich Jerk recommends) but it can also lead to your domain getting banned by search engines. However, to give the Rich Jerk credit he does outline all the risks associated with Cloaking.
The fourth chapter covers “Selling your own Information Product.” In this chapter the Rich Jerk provides tips on; ‘Creating your Product’, ‘Building your Website’, ‘Getting Affiliates to Promote your Product’, ‘Getting Affiliates to Promote your Product’ and much more. This fourth chapter is very similar to chapter two in that it covers the basics of selling your own informational product but doesn’t go into detail. It contains the basics but if you want a more detailed guide to creating your own information product I would recommend either Ebay Auction Income Streams or The One Month Magnate.
The fifth chapter is “Buying Wholesale and Selling on eBay.” In this chapter the Rich Jerk provides a selection of tips for those new to wholesaling which will help you stop being scammed. One particularly useful resource in this chapter is a tool that tells you where recipients of your email are located at the time they open your email e.g. if someone claims to be from the US you can make sure of this, and if they are not from the US you avoid a potential scam. This is another great chapter providing you with all you need to know to start making a profit with wholesale goods on eBay. I only have one small criticism that as a UK resident there are no wholesale sources I could use, but that is to be expected from a US based product.
The sixth chapter is “Websites you can make Profitable Right Now.” In this chapter the Rich Jerk provides a brief outline of a profitable website you could make for yourself. However, the highlight of the chapter is ‘Websites that made me over $1 Million.’ In this section, the Rich Jerk describes how he made over $1 million from a couple of his sites (which he has now sold). Although this chapter does not contain many practical ideas it is interesting to learn which websites made the Rich Jerk money.
The seventh chapter is “Other Online Ventures to Consider.” This short chapter is in my opinion one of the worst in the ebook. Not only is it short and basic but it just recommends some investment programs. The chapter seems really out of place, like it was thrown in by the Rich Jerk as some filler for the end of the ebook. I’m not saying these methods don’t work, but investment programs are not something I would place under the ‘Make Money on the Internet’ market.
The eighth and final chapter of the Rich Jerk provides “Supplemental Info for Beginners.” In this chapter the Rich Jerk breaks down some of his strategies to step by step basics in order to help the beginners. In this section the Rich Jerk discusses; ‘Building a Website’, ‘Placing Affiliate Tracking Codes on your Website’, ‘Affiliate Networks and what they are’, ‘Google Adwords’, ‘Google Adsense’ and much more. This chapter was of little use to me as I am not a beginner. However, I can see how this chapter would aid a beginner just getting started on the internet. The detailed step by step instructions are ideal for beginners as they provide the level of description that is required by those new to internet marketing.
Overall, the Rich Jerk is a good ebook for those new to Internet Marketing as it gets you thinking about how to set up multiple income streams on the Internet, which is essential for long-term success. It also provides you with enough information to set up each of the above income streams on your own. If you are just starting out in the Internet Marketing field then I would highly recommend this ebook. I know as well as anyone that when you start out and hear all the talk of Google Adwords, Google Adsense, Affiliate Programs, Pay per Click etc etc, it can all seem a bit daunting and you don’t know where to start. The Rich Jerk explains all these methods and gives you some brief recommendations on where to start.
However, if you want to take each income stream to the next level you will likely have to purchase an ebook related to that stream e.g. an ebook specialising in Google Adwords. The main problem with the Rich Jerk, is that it’s aimed mainly at beginners, and therefore lacks depth. If you are thinking of setting up one or more of the above income streams then the Rich Jerk is a good beginners guide, but if you are reasonably knowledgeable in the above fields then the Rich Jerk is unlikely to tell you anything new. When I purchased this ebook I was relatively unfamiliar with Internet Marketing outside of eBay so the Rich Jerk proved a useful reference point for me to expand my websites. If you are relatively experienced however, the lack of depth will be easily apparent to you.
To summarise, the level of benefit you would gain from this ebook comes down to your level of experience in Internet Marketing. If your just getting started and want an overview of all the options available to you for making money online then The Rich Jerk is an excellent text. However, if you have already been operating online for some time and know the ins and outs of Internet Marketing your money will be best spent elsewhere.
GOOD POINTS
- A very good starting point for beginners in Internet Marketing.
- Provides a variety of useful, applicable ideas for making money on the Internet.
- The language is concise and straight to the point with no technical jargon.
- As a reader you are unlikely to have thought about all the possible money making strategies detailed in this ebook.
- The ebook design is very professional and easy on the eye.
BAD POINTS
- It is aimed at the beginner so if you are looking to specialise in one particular area this ebook will not be useful.
- Lacks depth in certain areas and some issues are merely skimmed over.
- Some of the ‘black hat’ techniques are frowned upon by search engines.
HOW I HAVE GAINED FROM THE RICH JERK’S GUIDE TO MAKING MONEY ON THE INTERNET
As I have already stated, prior to reading the Rich Jerk I only sold ebooks on eBay. Reading the Rich Jerk opened my eyes to the importance of Internet Marketing outside of eBay. In particular I began to use Google Adsense and ClickBank’s Affiliate Program on my websites. I also began to promote my website through Article Submission (one of the best ways to drive free traffic to your website) and Pay per Click Advertising. Without reading the Rich Jerk I would never have considered these avenues for my business or even been aware of them.
